Employee life insurance
Liberty Mutual wants employees and their families to have peace of mind. That’s why we automatically provide employee life insurance coverage in the event of an employee’s death.
Liberty provides company-paid coverage equal to one year of pay for employees regularly scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week. If employees work between 20-30 hours per week, Liberty will pay half one year’s pay. Eligible employees regularly scheduled to work less than 30 hours per week have the option to elect no coverage.
Employees pay 100% of the cost of any additional coverage, from two times up to nine times annual pay, on a after-tax basis. The maximum total coverage amount is $4 million.
Coverage amounts are based on annual pay and are rounded to the nearest $1,000. Any company-paid coverage in amounts over $50,000 will be subject to imputed income. New hires are limited to guaranteed coverage of three times annual earnings or $3 million. Amounts above that require evidence of insurability.
U.S. employees regularly scheduled to work 20 hours or more per week become eligible for coverage on hire. If coverage isn’t elected within 30 days of hire, employees will receive the default levels of coverage.
